Highlights of New England

A stunning 14 day self drive tour of New England.

Departing from the UK on your flight with Icelandair you will arrive refreshed and ready to start the first part of your holiday.

We believe that any holiday should involve time to relax and treat yourself to the better things in life. With that in mind we have added a touch of something different to our New England tours.

You will be spending the first two nights in the beautiful city of Reykjavik at the incredible Rekjavik Centrum Hotel, a hotel that has the best location in the city, with rooms and service that will amaze you from the moment you pull up outside the hotel entrance.

Iceland’s Capital

Spend your time doing what ever you wish whether that be taking a tour of the southern part of the country, going whale watching, taking a tour to see the filming locations from “The Game Of Thrones”, or just wondering around this great city. What every you decide to do we know you will just love your time here.

Try a whale watching cruise.

Making your way back to the airport take the short hop across the pond to the city of Boston, the capital of the New England Region.

Your first two nights in the states will be at the Fairmont Copley Plaza, this hotel has been a symbol of the city’s history and elegance since it first opened it’s doors in 1912, with it’s incredible location in the Back Bay Area of the city you are just steps away from the Boston Public Library, Beacon Hill and also the Freedom Trail.

Boston Harbour.

With your time in Boston make sure that you visit the famous Cheers Bar and have a meal at the “Black Rose”, just to the left of Quincy Market. Take the T to Cambridge and see Harvard university. If you fancy a tour of the city what better way than to take a Duck Tour, a tour that is just as good on land as it is in the water.

Boston’s Beacon Hill.

After your two nights in Boston it’s time to collect your car and hit the road.

Head out the city on the North Shore to the town of Kennebunkport.

You will spend one night at the Kennebunkport Inn. The Inn was once a tea merchants mansion and was built in the 1890’s and has a great location with a casual elegance. Their onsite restaurant “The One Dock” offers not only some unique wines but also a great range of tapas, spend the evening on the sun terrace over looking the Kennebunk River.

Kennebunkport.

Leaving the state of Maine, turn inland and into New Hampshire and the White Mountains. Your next stop will be in the town of Jackson and at the Eagle Mountain House. This historic hotel has been welcoming guests for 135 years. The hotel has also been given a Historic Hotel Of America award. Make time to visit Jackson Falls and the quaint little specialty shops in town, have a meal on the 280 foot wraparound verandah or if your brave enough take a dip in the outdoor pool.

Drive through the White Mountains.

Laving Jackson take the old Indian Trail through the White Mountains National Park, making your way into the state of Vermont and the town of Woodstock. The road you will have driven is called the Kancamagus highway, an amazing name and an amazing drive. take your time, stop and take in the views of the Lake District.

So from leaving the White Mountains, your now in the Green Mountains, where you will spend two nights. This stay will be at the Woodstock Inn, this Inn is set in the heart of Woodstock, which is the prettiest small town in America. Wander the main street and think back to simpler times as the quaintness of this little town brings a smile to your face.

Onto the Green Mountain Area.

Check out the covered bridges, something this area is famous for and the village green with its restored Georgian Buildings.

Woodstock.

Depart Woodstock and make your way to Massachusetts and the Berkshires. On route visit the mini Grand Canyon the Quechee Gorge. Check out the Shaker Village at Hancock and Lenox, summer home to the Boston Symphony.

Your nights stop will be in Stockbridge and the Red Lion Inn. The Red Lion, where each room has been individually decorated giving it a special character and charm. This Inn has been operating since the 18th Century and is a true gem.

The Berkshires.

Moving on once more, head to the State of Rhode Island and the town of Newport. One the way you must stop at the Old Sturbridge Village a living 19th Century museum, make sure you speak to the locals and ask them what life was like back then, you will be in for a real shock as they said to me “ah, I be from Lincoln too” If your into your maritime history where better than America’s largest maritime museum in Mystic.

Newport.

Newport and the Viking inn will be your home for two nights allowing you to take in the pleasures of Rhode Island and as it was once the holiday hot spot for America’s rich and famous there is plenty to do. See the mansions of the Vanderbelt’s, tour the Cliff Walk or how about taking the Ten Mile Drive, this drive is said to be the most interesting 10 miles you can travel.

Cliff Walk and Ten Mile Drive.

The Viking Inn opened it’s doors in 1926 and the original letter box is still in reception. This hotel offers the best in modern amenities and comfort while keeping it’s original style. We know you won’t be disappointed.

After your time in Newport move on to your next stop “Olde Cape Cod” The seaside village of Chatham and the Chatham Wayside Inn will be your final stop on this amazing self-drive tour.

The inn is just steps from the exclusive mile of boutique shops, art galleries and restaurants. The village is in a great location situated in the “elbow” of Cape Cod where it is surrounded on three sides by water, Pleasant Bay, The Atlantic ocean and also Nantucket Sound.

Cap Cod.

You will spend two nights here allowing you time to explore the sandy beaches, quaint villages. Another chance to see whale on a whale watching cruise, visit Province Town or Martha Vineyard or the Island of Nantucket. Treat yourself to a New England lobster dinner on your last night.

Your last day on the states will see you drive back to Boston, taking in the Plantation at Plymouth.

Drop your car back at the airport in time for your flight home.

If you wish to take your own car, please call us for details and prices.
